Understanding Equipment Warranties for HVAC & Refrigeration Equipment

HVAC & Refrigeration Equipment manufacturers all provide a warranty with the purchase of the equipment. There is a variation in duration, coverage, and eligibility requirements for each manufacturer and even between equipment models. You will need to refer to the warranty documents that came with your equipment for exact warranty information. System cleaning and maintenance is not covered by warranties and often manufacturers require regular maintenance to keep their warranties valid. Some manufacturers even require proof of regular maintenance.

Regular maintenance requirements typically include:

  • Regular Inspections

  • Filter Replacement

  • Belt Replacement

  • Cleaning

  • Lubrication

  • System Calibration.

Here are some samples of warranty eligibility requirements from a few major HVAC & Refrigeration Equipment manufacturers.
